Many steroids have very strong physiological activity, which were widelyused for ant-inflammation, anti-shock, anti-allergy, etc. In view of the wideapplication of steroid drugs and the importance of biological transformation insteroid drugs field, this paper focus on screening strains which could transformprogesterone from Paris polphylla var.yunnanensis, separation of transformatio-n products and elucidation of compounds to obtain valua-ble strains and novelprogesterone derivatives.47strains preserved in laboratory and isolated from Paris polphylla var.yunnanensis were screened for progesterone transformation with TLC and HPLC.strains were selected because of high conversion rate. Progesterone was t-ransformed by YNCA1142、YNCA1193and YNCA1134with high specificity, while transformed by YNCA1161, YNCA1162, and YNCA1165with abundantdiversity. The magnifying fermentation for progesterone biotransformation with YNCA1193, YNCA1142, YNCA1161and YNCA1162was processed.17conversionproducts were isolated and purified by means of silica gel, RP-HPLC and rec-rystallization. Then those compounds were elucidated by detailed spectral andchemical analysis. Their characterized as (1)7β,15β,17-trihydroxyprogesterone;(2)14-hydroxy-pregn-4-ene-3,6,20-trione;(3)6β,9,14-trihydroxyprogesterone;(4)7β,11,14-trihydroxyprogesterone;(5)6,7β,14-trihydroxyprogesterone;(6)And-r-ostenedione;(7)Testosterone;(8)Testolactone;(9)11-hydroxyprogesterone;(10)15β-hydroxyprogesterone;(11)6β,11-dihydroxyprogesterone;(12)7β,15β-dihydro-xy-progesterone;(13)11,15β-dihydroxyprogesterone;(14)15β,17-dihydroxyprog-este-rone;(15)7β,11-dihydroxyprogesterone;(16)6β,14-dihydroxyprogesterone;(17)7β,14-dihydroxyprogesterone, Compound1,2and3are new.
