To achieve the goal of analyzing the impact of human activities on the landscape pattern in Dongting Lake Area during the recent decade in a quantitative way, OLS (short for Ordinary Least Square) regression model was used to simulate the relationship between the human activities and landscape pattern. After a series of processing with Statistical Yearbook of Hunan province and Landsat ETM image, two group of indices that describe human activities and landscape pattern were established and then inputted into OLS regression models as variables (human activities indices) and dependent variable (landscape pattern indices). The results that yield by OLS regression models describe how and to what extent are two indices that one from human activities indices group and another from landscape pattern indices related. At the same time, DEM (digital elevation model) is used to extract the terrain information of the study area, and landscape pattern analysis is conducted based on that to assess landscape pattern change under different terrain conditions with human activities taking into account. The main results were as follows:(1) OLS regression model perform well in the relationship modeling between human activity indices and landscape pattern indices. Only models in the year1999with CWED and SHEI、SHDI as model dependent variable perform not so well among all the21OLS models according to model diagnostic results.(2) Landscape pattern and Human activities were interrelated and showed an enhanced trend.(3) The impact of human activities on landscape pattern are variable according to specific kind of human activity and specific aspect of landscape pattern.(4) The expansion of built-up area and transportation network affect landscape pattern significantly.(5) Human activity’s impact on landscape pattern is relatively intense under terrain conditions witch when slope between0to8degrees or amplitude of landforms between0to75m. Under these terrain conditions, arable land and built-up area have greatly increased.
