The transgenic Wild Shepherd’s purse agglutinin (WSA) cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) is a new cotton variety that is resistant to cotton aphid. The effects on Bombyx mori Linnaeus, Apis mellifera ligustica and Eisenia foetida of transgenic WSA cotton was studied under laboratory condition. The results of the experiment showed that:1. There was no significant difference in amino acid, solubility sugar of pollens between transgenic cotton and non-transgenic cotton. There was no significant difference in death rate, age weight, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, the cocooning rate, cocoon weight,the emergence rate of silkworm (Bombyx mori Linnaeus) between transgenic cotton treatment and non-transgenic cotton treatment. The results suggested that there were no significant adverse effects on silkworm of the transgenic WSA cotton.2. There was no significant difference in death rate, SOD activity, the total protease activity, life of honey bee (Apis mellifera ligustica) between transgenic cotton treatment and non-transgenic cotton treatment. The results suggested that there were no significant adverse effects on honey bee of the transgenic WSA cotton.3. The results of the49d experiment showed that there was no significant difference in death rate, weight, SOD activity, Glutathione-S-transferases (GST) activity, cellulase activity, the production earthworm cocoon number and the hatched earthworms of Eisenia fetida between transgenic cotton treatment and non-transgenic cotton treatment. The results suggested that there were no significant adverse effects on E. fetida of the transgenic WSA cotton.
