Seawater desalination is a sunrise industry in the21st century, the freshwater crisis of world provides an unprecedented opportunity for the development of the desalination industry in coastal areas where is short of water. The exploration and application of seawater desalination project in Hebei Guohua Cangdong Power Generation will promote the process of localization of the technology, such as how to reduce the operating cost of water furthermore and achieve the optimal operation of water and electricity cogeneration system. This paper analyzes the desalination equipment of this company, models and calculates the thermodynamic cost of water desalination quantitatively. Since there is no ready-made standard in the current domestic for low-temperature multi-effect water and electricity cogeneration units, so there are many methods to calculate the thermodynamic cost. After multi-repeated discussion, the result is to use the heat balance method, the cycle function method and the equivalent enthalpy drop method combined with the experimental data of water desalination to calculate the cost. Then this paper proposes ways and means for the optimal operation of the desalination unit system. Finally, this paper puts forward comprehensive efficiency analysis and prospects development of water and electricity cogeneration.
