In the spectral analysis of atomic absorption, we need to introduce the photonescape factor to describe the self-absorption of a spectral line. This research hasimportant referencing significance in analyzing a spectral line quantitatively. In thisthesis, using the basic theory of escape factor, we analyze the factor that effect theescape factor, and taking the absorption spectral lines of sodium and atomic oxygen asan example, we analyze the effect of the escape factor on the intensity of the spectralline.Firstly, we discuss the effect of profiles of spectral line broadening on the escapefactor. An atomic spectral line has certain broadening, and different describing methodreflects different property of the absorbing atom. In this thesis, we mainly analyze thegeneration mechanism and description of Gaussian profile (Doppler profile),Lorentzian profile and Voigt profile, and analyze the theories of the escape factorsunder the condition of different profiles.Secondly, we discuss the effect of plasma geometries on the escape factor. Different plasmageometries have different boundary conditions, so the escape factors have different forms. In thisthesis, we analyze the calculation method for the common infinite slab, infinite cylinder andspherical plasma geometries, and we contrast and analyze them with former results.Thirdly, taking the Na330.3nm absorption spectral line in atomic absorption measurement as anexample, according to the experimental data, we discuss the optical depth at the line center, andanalyze the calculation results under the condition of infinite slab and infinite cylinder. We analyzeand discuss the calculation results, and obtain some important conclusions. Finally, taking the atomic oxygen O(1D)630.0nm in atmospheric wind measurement asan example, we discuss the calculation results of the optical depth at the line centerand the escape factor, and analyze the relationship of the escape factor and the opticaldepth at the line center, finally explain the effect of the escape factor on the intensityof the spectral line. This analysis has important referring value in the theory and application of atmospheric wind measurement using the aurora.
