The problem of liquid sloshing involves extensive engineering background.Liquid sloshing directly affect the dynamic behavior of the liquid-filled systemand the mechanical properties of the internal structure of tank. Therefore, how toreduce the liquid sloshing by means of structural design and analysis of liquidsloshing dynamics in the tank have important engineering applications.In this paper, a new anti-sloshing structure with "cross-shaped" leafstructures rotatable about a fixed axis is presented, which breaks the traditionalidea of installing fixed baffle in a tank. In order to analyzing the performance ofthis anti-sloshing structure, we investigate the effect of sloshing suppression andthe liquid sloshing dynamics of this structure in a flat rectangular tank in boththeory and experiment, which belongs to the field of two-dimensional liquidsloshing. First, under the basic theory of liquid sloshing in a tank, the mechanismof the "cross-shaped" leaf structure and the liquid sloshing dynamics i n the caseof slightly swaying are systematically analyzed, ending up with five theoreticalmodels, including dynamic model of the "cross-shaped" leaf in tank, wave theorymodel of rigid tank filled with water of equal depth, wave theory model of rigidtank filled with water of equal depth and installed with two "cross-shaped" leafstructures, wave theory model of rigid tank filled with water of equal depth in thecase of horizontal excitation, wave theory model of rigid tank filled with water ofequal depth and installed with two "cross-shaped" leaf structures in the case ofhorizontal excitation.Finally, this paper presents three different types of tank, including the tankwith "cross-shaped" leaf structures, the tank with fixed baffle structures, and thetank with no anti-sloshing structures. In the case of different water depths,excitation frequencies, and excitation amplitudes, their sloshing suppressionproperties are compared.Theoretical and experimental studies demonstrate that the cross-shaped"leaf structures can effectively reduce the liquid sloshing in the tank,and do betterin reducing the force of sloshing liquid acting on tank than the traditional fixedbaffles.
