Niukutou area is situated on the north slope of Qimantage Mountain in thenortheast of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It is tectonically located within theQimantage orogenic belt, corresponding to the Qimantage-Dulan sub-orogenicbelt of the late Caledonian East Kunlun orogenic belt.On the basis of study on geological setting and ore-controlling factors ofNiukutou area, the authors studied its deposit characteristics and genesis. The results obtained are as follows:1. By systematically summarizing ore body distribution, it is believed thatcopper-iron ores occur in the lower ore bodies while lead-zinc ores in theupper orebodies; mineral association of the lower orebodies displaymedium-high temperature characteristics, while mineral association of theupper orebodies display medium-low temperature characteristics, whichidentifies the direction for future prospecting.2. Orebody genesis was discussed, believing that orebodies were formed inIndo-Chinese epoch, and the main ore body is of skarn type.3. Magnetic anomaly can be considered as significant prospecting evidencefor the area surrounding Niukutou, even the Qimantage metallogenic belt;besides, low and gentle anomaly and unmapping anomaly areas should not beignored. The contact zone between carbonate rocks and intrusions is theprospecting marker; steep part by magma uplifting and estuarine part hinderingmagma movement are favorable to mineralization. The deposit characteristics of Niukutou area and rich ore prospectingexperience accumulated recently are significant to guide future prospectingand scientific research.
