With the development of society and economy, demand for groundwater isincreased greatly, but looking for the water becomes more difficult. Normalhydrologic geophysical prospecting methods concludes DC electrical method, electromagnetic method and radioactivity prospecting, which are using the thedifference of physical properties between the different rocks to find out about thehydrogeological problems indirectly by the measurement of physical distribution andchange rules. But, the methods are not effective in some special areas. In this paper, the new method-surface nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is referred, which is theunique new method for looking for water directly at present on earth. The detectionutilizes the nuclear magnetic resonance of the protons excited by the electromagneticfield with different requencies. NMR signals are analyzed to determine the watercontent, thickness, depth and average porosity of the aquifer. SNMR (SurfaceNuclear Magnetic Resonance) method is a quite new method for direct detectinggroundwater in applied geophysics, which have many advantages, just as directness, information richness and high resolution, compared with the traditional geophysicaldetection method of groundwater.geophysical and traditional methods ofgroundwater directly to the water compared with the rich amount of information, andhigh resolution.Paper, the principle of surface NMR method, apparatus and method of use arebriefly described, with emphasis on the Quaternary loose rock pore water and groundmagnetic resonance to detect the effect of different geological conditions wereanalyzed for the presence or absence of groundwater mainly distribution and NMRcorrespondence between the resonance parameters of the response, nuclear magneticresonance of water depth, aquifer thickness and lithology effects and error detection, electromagnetic interference effects on NMR data analysis, nuclear magneticresonance methods floor master application characteristics, summarized ground mode NMR methods.NMR method applied by ground effect hydrogeological exploration analysis, this method has directly to water, to distinguish whether the groundwatersignificantly, relative to other indirect geophysical methods to find multiple solutionsof water, and its success rate of water buried and reflects the deep aquifer thicknesserror is small, information-rich inversion advantages. Its limitations have limitedprobing depth, currently only reach150m, and its resolution is reduced withincreasing depth; rich amount of information retrieval, but the main level and aquiferthickness, other parameters can only be used as a reference, and the real parameterslarge errors; anti-interference ability weak, low construction efficiency, bulkyinstrument; inversion accuracy, stability, and spatial and temporal resolution andneeds to be further improved. Compared with the conventional method and the directcurrent electromagnetic method has its characteristics and advantages, underconditions permitting, can be used to find water alone, but also can be used inconjunction with other indirect methods to find water.
