Analysis Of Geochemistry Features And Mineralization Factors Of The Zunyi Bauxite Deposit

Bauxite is one of the major minerals in Guizho u, a nd the reserves there rank fourth inChina. The Zunyi bauxite deposit, located in northern Guizhou Province and abo ut onehundred kilometers away from Guiyang City, has the characteristics of large stocks andhigh quality. As one of the four large ore concentration areas of Guizhou,the Zunyibauxiete deposit has been proved75million tons reserves and been developed and utilizedin a desirable way, yet leaving nearly300million tons of resource potential unexploited.Systematical study on the fabric and element geochemistry of the ore-bearing rock seriesshows as following:1. The Zunyi bauxite deposit is originated within the Lower Carboniferous andlocated near the equator in the sedimentary period, the underlying basement being clayrock of the Tongzi Group Lower Ordovician.2. Bauxite’s form, size, thickness and grade are obviously controled by basementpa leo-karst depression, taking the shapes of lentoids or lens in the uppe r of ore-bearingrock series. The ore bed show large thickness, good continuity, increased layers and finequality in the low-lying of basement, but thin thickness, single ore body, low ore grade andbarren intercalation in bulge or relative raised area.3. Bauxite ore mineral contains diaspore as its main element, a small quantity ofboehmite, gibbsite and alumogel. The gangue mineral includes kaolinite, illite and chlorite,Al2O3, SiO2, Fe2O3and TiO2be ing its main compo nents. The ore texture takes on clasticor bean-pebble forms and the ore structure, blocklike or half-soil forms.4. Its basement rocks may be its parent rocks, and the mother rocks haveuniversally undergone a complete homogenization.5. The metallogenic material of Zunyi bauxite deposit comes from shale of Tongziand Meitan Group of basement. In the process of mineralization, the basement strata areuplifted by crustal movement, suffer weathering and erosion, and then the clay mineralundergo weathering and resedimentation so that aluminous rock and bauxite are formed.
