With the shortage of energy resources and the stress of oil exploration anddevelopment, study on the unconventional energy resources is imperative. As theimportant part of unconventional energy, oil shale has great potential. Under theresearch of geochemistry on oil shale, the sedimentary environment can bedetermined, and the exploration and development of oil shale will be re-recognized,then the oil shale pre-development basic data is comprehensive. Under the guidanceof organic geochemistry, major elements, trace elements, the sedimentaryenvironment, characteristic quality and exploration potential of oil shale can bedetermined.Major elements and trace elements show that oil shale developed in reducing andsoft reducing, deep and semi-deep environment, where large quantity of nutrientelements was input by surrounding volcano activities. When the oil shale foemed, theclimate was hyperthermia. According to the latest assessment criteria, the majority ofthe oil shale in northern Bogda Mountain belongs to medium oil yield grade, accounting for70percent of all the oil shale. The linear relationship of Tar and TOC,S1+S2is positively correlated,so we can represent the quality of oil shale by TOC andS1+S2. Organic matter type of oil shale is Ⅱ1with Analysis of chloroform asphalt“A” and Rock pyrolysis parameters. The kerogen was in low mature stage, withRobetween0.6and0.84, Tmax below450℃.
