The railway from shiyan to yichang pass though the mountainous area in the west of hubei province, which has special and complicated geological condition and is one of place where landslide is more seriously growing in our country. Wangjialing landslide is in the new district of Xingshan county, where the railway pass by.The landslide not only threat people’s life and property, but also affect the safe running of the railway in the future.Therefore, it is necessary to analyze and research on the Wangjialing landslide.The thesis regard Wangjialing landslide as a research objective. Through collecting existing datum, field prospecting and mapping. The geological background of the landslide is understood. Then it analyze the deformation and growth characteristics, formation conditions and formation mechanism of Wangjialing landslide. And on this basis, the limit equilibrium method and numerical simulation method are used to analyse and evaluate the stability of landslide. Finally, it predict the damage of the landside, and give some corresponding prevention advices. The main research contents and results are as follows:(1) The deformation and destruction of Wangjialing landslide is control jointly by the sliding surface and the sliding body. The boundary of sliding body and sliding surface are very clear. They control the creep sliding and creep deformation of the landslide together until the boundary extend to be fracture. Eventually it result in quickly slide of the sliding body. The landslide will go through a process of creep sliding、creep deformation and rupture extending for a period before it slide. Then it slide raidly through the inducing factors of rainfall and manual excavation.(2) The limit equilibrium method and numerical simulation method are used to analyze and calculate the stability of landslide. The calculation results show that, the No.1landslide is in steady state; the No.2landslide is stable under natural state, but it’s safety margin is very low. And it will be unstable under the state of rain staturated or earthquake. The results of numerical simulation is consistent to the results of limit equilibrium method and field investigation data. It shows that the calculation model and the slection of parameters are reaonable.(3) Although the landslide is stable under natural station. There develops many shallow deformatable body in the landslide body. The free surface of manual excavation in the leading edge of landslide, together with rain infiltration is the favorable combination to form shallow landslide. Shallow deformation mainly is trail-type destruction. Thus it further affect the stability of the front of landslide, and even the whole of the landslide.(4) Now the deformation and destruction mode of Wangjialing landslide is front traction sliding deformation, and it has caused serious damage. It is recommended to take comprehensive measures of slope protection and retaining、surface drainage、anchor to reinforce slope、reducing weight、monitoring and early warning to control Wangjialing landslide.
