The Southwest Yunnan region is situated in the southeastern margin of theTibetan Plateau. It is the transition zone between the Tibetan Plateau and theYunnan-Guizhou Plateau. The neo-tectonic movement in the study area is moreintense, resulting in mountains uplifting rapidly, rivers incising strongly. It is theimportant zone for researching the neo-tectonic movement. Southwest Yunnan islocated in the southern section of the North-South Seismic Belt, leading earthquakesoccur in this place. So detailed exploration of the region’s fault, especially thedistribution and the character of active faults really have important value.The paper extract geomorphology and physiognomy information in Dayingjiangbasin and area, and make a series of spatial analysis based on the data of ASTERGDEM and the Arcgis spatial analysis techniques. Meanwhile, we extract someinformation of the Mountain structural belts and Fault Belt’s liner fault structurecharacteristics and the method of using the extraction of fracture and the study ofnature by Remote Sensing Technology and GIS.In this paper, we used Arcgis10.1software to extract the shadow of the mountainarea, highlighting the intuitive linear shadow pattern, and using slope analysis tointerpreted a relatively strong gradient mutation neotectonism large areas; Using ArcHydro Tools extracting the water system, compared the morphology of the fracture onboth sides of river. It is improved that the river verified by controlling fracture, andreflected the river with distribution characteristics due to tectonic movements control.In addition, Planation surface were extracted, using DEM elevation profile reveals thedevelopment of planation surface. Finally, using three-dimensional visualizationtechnology, I overlay DEM\ETM+data dimensional, makes the distribution offracture more intuitive.Through the physiognomy analysis in The Southwest Yunnan region, theextraction of liner fault structure was finally fulfilled based on DEM.Eight Fractureswere interpreted,they are: Sudian Fault, Binlang River Fault, Tengchong Fault, which trending south to north; the Dianchang-Pingshan Fault, Wadelong Fault and theLongling-Ruili Fault, which trending NE to SW; the Wanding Fault trendingEast-West. The features of these faults are summarize by group, so we get aconclusion that this area suffers EW extensional and is Squeezed by the north-southtectonic stress field. By checking the extracted faults combined with the1:200000geological report and geological map, most of the faults are confirmed, so it isfeasible to extract fault by the Remote Sensing Technology.
