Along with the increasing demands in hydrological and meteorologicalobservation system, such as expansibility and ease of use features, the traditional datacollector which has a small kernel or doesn’t have operating system is difficult tomeet the requirements of industrial design. Thus, this thesis design a kind ofhydrological and meteorological data collector based on embedded Linux, usingthe embedded Linux’s excellent system performance and software developmentenvironment, to achieve the goal of reliability, expansibility and ease of use. Theadvantages of embedded Linux mainly include: free and open source code;configuring the kernel flexibly according to the engineering requirements; acceptedstability and reliability in the same industry;rich drivers and protocols;programmingspecification follows the unified software architecture and modular; easy totransplant and maintain.In the thesis we choose a ARM embedded development core board based oncharacteristics of hydrological and meteorological data collector, then design ainterface board considering the electromagnetic compatibility and reliability ofhardware. After that we transplant U-Boot bootloader and Linux kernel for datacollector, and creat the software development environment with Linux OS; underLinux OS we achieve many functions by flexibly using file operations, multithread,data management in program design method of Linux. These functionsinclude receiving real time sensor data, remote communication and data transmissionbased on ethernet, graphical interface display and touch screen control based on thirdparty libraries. Finally, this thesis presents the software test results, to validate thecorrectness and reliability of hydrological and meteorological data collector based onembedded Linux.
