As an effective equipment of analysis and identification of spectral emission and substances components, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR spectrometer) has a history of development more than40years. It has been the most versatile instrument among near-infrared, mid-infrared and far-infrared spectral bands. Research on spectral characteristics of the rocks and minerals has great significance in Geological Prospecting. The thermal infrared spectroscopy can detect and measure all the alteration minerals including low and high temperature alteration minerals. Using Fourier transform infrared spectrometer to obtain continuous thermal spectral characteristics of rocks and minerals and analyze spectral emissivity properties of thermal infrared band is the method to operate fine rock information extraction and quantitative analysis and identify major research component of the feature types.In this paper, based on the research on principle, features and applications of thermal infrared spectrum measurements of rock and minerals, the feasibility that FT-IR spectroscopy applied to operate the information extraction of rocks and minerals and quantitative analysis in Geological Prospecting area has been proved. TurboFT Portable FT-IR Spectrometer is belonging to FT-IR spectrometer and can be used to detect surface features among the thermal infrared spectral range. Due to the fact that the software coming with the instrument cannot integrate other control function modules, which is not conducive to conduct the follow-up studies in this research, the software redevelopment is needed. After the redevelopment, the software has parameters setting function module, spectral acquisition module, blackbody calibration module and data processing function module. And for the variety of data processing algorithms designed in this paper, especially the TES algorithm of emissivity have been analyzed and compared in details.The main contents of this paper are as follows:1) Describes the research situation and trends of Fourier transform infrared spectrometer at home and abroad, and describes the measurement principle of the infrared spectrum, interference-type structure with the advantages of the spectrometer. Emphasizes TurboFT Fourier transform infrared radiometer’s structure, working principle and upgrading improvement compared with the102F;2) By use of the software development kit (SDK) provided by manufacturers, among which the application program interface (API) can be called, and with Visual C++class library (MFC) to redevelop the instrument control software in the Windows XP operating system;3) Makes a detailed study and analysis and comparison of the various spectral processing methods, especially the temperature-emissivity separation algorithm (TES) of the objects’ emissivity calculation and instrument calibration. Describes data processing methods the instruments acquired and their advantages in details;4) Describes the measuring principle of the minerals’ thermal infrared spectrum, application examples at home and abroad and advantages. Obtains radiation brightness and spectral emissivity curve of agate sample and rock samples indoor and outdoor, and compares with ASU standard spectrum library to analyze, and then verify the accuracy and reliability of the algorithm and functions of redeveloped software.Experiments by measuring the spectral radiance and emissivity of two groups of samples indoor and outdoor has been taken to verify the functionality and reliability of control software and the feasibility of the algorithms. The researches of software development and measurements in thermal infrared spectrum of minerals provide the conditions to build database of rocks’ and minerals’infrared spectrums and the foundation for this instrument equipped with airship or UAV to command geological prospecting in the future.
