Resin transfer molding (RTM) is a widely used resin molding process in high-techfields. The products can not meet the increasing performance requirements because of itsvoid defect which exist in the process.Void defect usually occurs in resin filling stage of the RTM process. Under thesupposition that resin filling flow is laminar flow of incompressible non Newtonian fluid,based on the theory of fluid mechanics and finite element analysis method,3D numericalsimulation is done about a lot of factors that have an influence on the formation such aslocation and number of Injection port, Injection speed and injection temperature and soon. ANSYS/FLOTRAN module is used for Numerical modeling, through the fillingparameters analysis of resin filling processes to work out how these parameters influencethe void formation during filling process and finally to find out optimum parametersettings.Through the simulation analysis, we find because interior structure of the mold canaffect the resin flow behavior, location and number of injection port will affect voidformation too; the simulation proves that the less injection port and the injection port’sshape more close to cross-section of prefabricated body, the less void formation; injectionspeed too slow will cause resin flow stop flowing before the mold fully saturated, and theinjection speed too fast will lead to backflow of resin or the corner of mold is not fillingwell, so both of them will lead to generation of void defects; injection temperature canaffect the resin viscosity and then resin flow behavior, if the temperature is too low willcause the resin flow too slow to fully filled and too high will affect the productperformance. The simulation process breaking the2D simulation limitation of the presentstudy and realize the3D simulation of resin flow. Though the analysis, the morereasonable injection speed setting of RTM process fill stage is about10cm/s. The moldanalysis shows that void content level is very low.
