As the motor vehicle emission regulations get stricter, the pollution caused byabnormal exhausts has been paid more and more attention. Semi volatile organiccompounds (SVOCs), one kind of important pollutants in vehicle exhausts, isindispensable to take further research. On the other hand, the particulate matter (PM)in vehicle exhausts have also severely damaged the environment and the health ofhuman beings. What‘s more, the soluble organic fraction (SOF) in PM contains somecarcinogenic compounds. The vehicle exhausts are complex and hard to be analyzedbecause of the complexity of the fuel composition and the combustion process. Inthis study, we had carried out series of experiments based on several diesel enginesmeeting different exhaust standards:(1) The emission characteristics of different diesel engines meeting differentemission standards burnt with China Ⅲ diesel were studied, including SVOCs ingaseous phase and particulate matter. All the SVOCs were qualitative analyzed, andthe characteristic compounds (n-alknes and16kinds of PAHs limited by EPA) werealso been quantitative analyzed;(2) The component of different kinds of diesel oils including China Ⅲ diesel,China Ⅳ diesel and Fischer-Tropsch oil (FT oil) were studied. All the n-alkanes andPAHs and its homologue have been qualitative researched. In addition, thecompositions of lubricating oil were also preliminary studied;(3) The component of SOF in PM emission burnt with different kinds of oils(China Ⅲ diesel, China Ⅳ diesel and FT oil) in diesel engine was studied. As thediesel fuels are mainly composed of alkanes and aromatic hydrocarbons, these twokinds of compounds were particularly qualitative analyzed. Some other components inChina Ⅲ and Ⅳ diesels were also qualitative analyzed;(4) Based on the diesel combustion mechanism and PAHs forming mechanismthat have been published, the source of SOVCs were preliminarily summarized. At thesame time, the forming process of some other complex compounds was considered. With all above experiments, the SVOCs emission characteristics of severaldiesel engines burnt with different diesel oils were systematically studied, which issignificant to improve engine combustion performance and emission conditions.
