Clamping unit is an important system of injection molding machine. Due to good kinematics characteristics and mechanical properties, the clamping unit is widely used in many varieties of molding machine. As the injection molding machine towards faster, energy-saving, high-precision, it is necessary to promote the working mechanism design level through doing system research on it. Under this background, aiming at obtaining optimum clamping performance, the static and dynamic characteristics and mechanism parameter optimization of clamping unit of injection molding machine are researched. The main research work is as follows:(1) The software development for five-point toggle champing unit of injection molding machine.The motional and mechanical model which includes the mold stroke, ratio of stroke, the force amplification, the force of clamping, the pushing force of closure oil cylinder and else is systematically established. And the analysis research of the relationship between the design parameters and main clamping performance is finished, which laid the foundation for the mechanism optimization design. The optimization mathematical model of clamping unit is established as the constraint conditions and the optimization targets are determined, different target models are optimized by adopt penalty function method, nonlinear constrained optimization method, and multi-objective optimization method, and the best optimization design is determined at last. The parameters design for clamping unit was established, and the clamping unit parameters conventional serialization design is established. The structure design of the main parts is finished. The clamping unit optimization software graphical user interface is established in MATLAB, and a series of clamping units optimization design are completed by this optimization system. The optimization results show that the optimized system can effectively improve the clamping mechanism clamping performance and design efficiency.(2) The rigid-flexible coupling characteristics research for five-point toggle clamping unit of injection molding machine. The Solidworks software and ADAMS software co-simulation analysis was used to establish the rigid-flexible coupling model of the clamping unit, laying the foundation for the dynamic stress simulation and analysis of clamping unit. And the comparison of key parts’ velocity and stress between the rigid model simulation and rigid-flexible coupling model simulation is finished. The measures and methods are proposed to improve the kinematic characteristics after simulation results analyzed, and the results can be applied for the guide of clamping unit dynamic design. (3) Topology optimization of platens of injection molding machine. The finite element analysis model of stationary platen,moving platen, and rear platen of injection molding machine are established, and the deformation and stress distribution of each platen are obtained after Linear static analysis. The platens’ deflection and stress are checked. In order to achieve the platen lightweight design, the platen structure is designed and improved by topology optimization, and the platen mechanical properties and material utilization are compared between initial design and optimization design, and the platen lightweight design measures and methods are proposed.
