China is the world’s biggest coal-producing and using country, the problem of coal production safety has been widespread concern for whole society. Despite China’s large and medium-sized coal mines are generally installed safety monitoring system, but unable to grasp the reliable location information of underground personnel, which limits the disaster relief efficiency and misses the best rescue time after the accident. RFID positioning system which coal mining enterprises widely used exists defects of only attendance but precise positioning, is failed to meet the requirements of coal mine safety.ZigBee technology,as a new low-power, low-cost, anti-interference, self-organization and strong short-range wireless communications technology, has aroused widespread concern in wireless sensor networks applications. Thus, the thesis researches and designs a real-time location system based on ZigBee wireless sensor network through a carrying sensor positioning node, not only to achieve the underground staff attendance management, but also on the underground personnel real-time positioning, which effectively improve the level of coal mine production safety monitoring and disaster relief, and effectively protect the lives and safety of the employees.Combined with the actual environment of the coal mine, carries out a thorough study on the current popular wireless sensor network localization algorithm, and selects the RSSI-based wireless location algorithm by comprehensive verification, and derives a mathematical model of the attenuation of signal transmission. The thesis puts forward positioning system design’s hardware design and development of the system software. Combined with the characteristics of the underground environment, the network is divided into a plurality of sub-network, which linked by the optional cluster network, and expounds system data transmission line, nodes deployment, intrinsically safe circuit design, focusing on the wireless sensor node design based on CC2430/2431. On this basis, developes Z-Stack protocol stack using IAR EW8051software to achieve the gateway, the reference node, the mobile node of the networking and positioning functionFinally, builds a small network positioning, carries out the positioning experiments based on three different conditions in building corridors which is similar to the roadway on basis of satisfactory alignment parameters by data fitting. Analysis of the positioning effect on the PC positioning monitoring software,and the result proves that the positioning effect of the RSSI-based location system is able to meet the requirements and is feasibility in down hole applications.
