Reverse Engineering has increasingly played an important role indigital copying, design innovation and improvement, especially inmechanical, art, medical, automotive, aerospace and other fields. Andwith the rapid development of computer, digital measurement and CNCmachining technologies, it makes direct tool path generation from pointcloud possible, which will not only short the production cycle of product,but also will cover the gap between the world advanced level andtechnologies in some areas of product design.After measuring3D point cloud data from a parabolic antenna, keytechniques of direct tool path generation are in-depth studied in the thesis.Therefore, complex processes of Delaunay triangulation and surfacereconstruction in reverse engineering are avoided, and developing periodsof products are shortened too. The main contents are included as follows:1) An idea of direct tool path generation from point cloud isproposed after the definition, application and workflow of reverseengineering are introduced, and methods of direct tool path generationfrom point cloud are reviewed.2) The main phase and absolute phase are determined from thebinocular structured-light PMP (Phase Measure Profile) visionmeasurement system with the phase shift and multi-frequency heterodyneprinciple. And acquisitions of grating images are3D matched withanalysis of view fields, region segmentations, and relevant parameters ofthe measurement system. Moreover, the point cloud data of parabolicantenna is acquired.3) As the influence of view field and model size for measuring, threenon-collinear marked points are employed to splice and align relativepoints, and then a complete point cloud of parabolic antenna is obtained.After that, a bilateral filtering method is used to smooth and filter thepoint cloud, and remove noise data. After the point cloud is projected, a regional comparative method of equilateral triangle grids is proposed tosimplify the projected point data.4) Based on the introduction of related concepts and methods of toolpath generation and the restriction of iso-scallop for parabolic antenna, aprogram of direct iso-scallop tool path generation from point cloud isdeveloped in the Visual C++environment with secondary developmentfunctions of UG API.
