Relief products are widely used in some industries such as furnituremanufacturing, advertising production etc. With the development of numerical controltechnology, numerical control(NC) machining has become the main way of reliefmanufacturing. In the process of relief NC machining, NC automatic programming isindispensable. However, for most of the NC automatic programming methodsnowadays, experienced NC programming engineer and professional CAD/CAMsoftwares were essentially needed. Hence, these methods became high-cost andinefficiency for some small and medium-sized enterprises. Therefore, an NC automaticprogramming method, which is lowcost, high-efficiency and with independent propertyrights, is urgently demanded.The NC automatic programming method for engraving, which’s presented in thisdissertation was based on SFS technology, it can meet those enterprises’ requirements.The method can generate NC programs by having a series of processing on amonocular photo or artificial grayscale. These processings includeing imagecapturing, image preprocessing,3d reconstruction, post processing. In this dissertation,the automatic programming flow was designed. Then, the theories analysis and thesoftware development for all those processings were achieved. Three parts of thoseprocessings were mainly researched, including image preprocessing,3d reconstructionand post processing. In the aspect of image preprocessing, the weighted grey-scaleprocessing method was improved by using the theory of coordinate mapping, and anadaptive median filter was put into use for image denoising. Then, these imagepreprocessing methods were proven to be superior to other regular ones. In the aspectof3d reconstruction, the reason of putting SFS into use was analysed. Oren-Nayarillumination model was used to describe the relationship between physical shape andgradation of image. By simplifying the illumination model, the Reflection Equationwas acquired. The iterative formula for object height calculatting was achieved byusing a linearization method. After developing the software for SFS, relief3Dmorphology(within180degrees measuring range, also called2.5D) was gained, meanwhile SFS was proved to be reasonable in this dissertation. In the aspect of postprocessing, the sorftware, whitch was designed for generating NC program, wasdeveloped according to the process parameters, the selection of carving tool and theinstruction format of HPGL. The move mode of the graver was set to be moving backand forth.The experimental results show that, both monocular image and artificial grayscalecan be the input data of the NC automatic programming method. Both the input datacan generate NC program accurately. Using these NC programs, relief products wereproduced and turned out to be of good stereoscopic effects, ornamental and of goodconsistency to the objects in the images. Thus, the NC automatic programmingmethod,which is presented in this dissertation, is proved to be effective and feasible.
