As a kind of specialtypaper, cigarette paper holds a dominant position in tissue paper, while it takes a place in cigarette industry as part of the cigarette. Participation of burning is always given great attention in the characters of cigarette paper. The performence of burned ash is an important characteristic of cigarette paper, which is depended on the retention of calcium carbonate closely. Low retention-rate has bad effects on not only whiteness and porosity but also ash characteristics, this makes stringent requirements on the controlof calcium carbonate in wet end. In China, study of chemicals application in wet end of cigarette paper is still less and mechanism research of auxiliaries action in the production of cigarette paper is.rarely.A series of derivatives of chitosan had been synthesized and the application of them were studied in this paper. The synthetical conditions were optimized by focusing on the substitution degree of HTCC. The study of chitosan’s derivatives Synthesis and its application will provide reference information and theoretical basis for high-quality cigarette paper making. This paper studied the synthesis of quaternary ammonium salt of chitosan and its application in cigarette paper. The synthetical conditions was optimized though single factor experiments. IR spectrometer was used to characterize the structure of quaternary ammonium salt of chitosan. The effects of dosage of HTCC on the Zeta potential, retention of fines fraction, retention of ash content, air permeability and tensile strength of the cigarette paper were studied. The results showed that the retentions of fines fraction ash content were85.2%,22.7%, air permeability and tensile strength were24.5cm3min-1·cm-2and1.54kN·m-1, respectively, while the lmg·g-1of HTCC were added and the substitution degree of the sample was0.5. Further study shown that the adsorption process of HTCC could be best simulated by Langmuir’s adsorption isothermal line. Therefore it could be concluded that the adsorption behavior of HTCC on the fiber obeys the formation of monolayer molecule sorption.
