Human activies cause a lot of CO2emission into atmosphere, which change theregional and spatial pattern of carbon budget, and aggravate the globa warming tosome extent. Therefore, to explore the status of CO2budget and its tendence is veryimportant to estimate the climate change and its impact on society and economy inthe future.Guangdong Province as the No.1province of economy in China, whicheconomicdevelopment has a profound impact to our nation’s economy.Guangdong’s achievement of economy comes always along with a lot of CO2emission, its results in land use change, fossil energy comsumption increase, rapidcement production growth, deforestation and so on, have led to an unbalancecarbon budget syetem, posing a challenging problem. With the “Low-carbonCityPlan”beingpassed by governments at all levels,buildinglow-carbon cities inGuangdong province havebeen put on the agenda. Therefore, it is necessary todetermine the causative factors of CO2concentrationin Guangdong province andtheir contributions, and what ecosystems have function of carbon deposition, howmuch they can sequestrate the carbonin a year. This paper evaluated the carbon budgetsby settingdifferent scenarios in unitsofprefecture-levelcities in Guangdong province using carbon budget model,RS andGIS techniques so as to explore the temporal-spatial nature of carbon budgetevolution in whole province. The target is to clarify the mechanismof carboncycling in Guangdong province, and to estimate the quantity of carbon emission andcarbon sink and the potential carbon pool..The result of can be used as adecision-making basis for Guangdong provincialand central-governmentto draft thepolicy of emission reduction and also as reference for energy consumption, ecologicalenvironmental construction and urbanization, as well as promotion of sustainablelocal social and economic development.Afteranalysis of carbon budget of territory land in Guangdong province, we candraw the conclusions as follows: (1).Carbon emission in Guangdong provinceappears of large increment, rapidincrease speed. The emission of fossil energy comsuption take over above90%as awhole, the main partion of theincrement emission.(2). Carbon emission in Guangdong province shows a “centre-border”patten,Pearl River Delta regions is the “centre”, and the east part, west part and north part arethe “border”.(3).The carbon budget in prefecture-levelcity regions displays a severe unbalancein Guangdong province, the regions with strongcarbon storage mismatch the regionswith large emission.(4).Forest land is the most importamt carbon sink.
