The composite material with high specific strength and specific stiffness iswidely used in the aircraft structure. If the material conta ins a certain degree of defect,the safety performance of the material would be affected. Acoustic emission testingcan in-service inspection on composite materials, can determine the acoustic emissionsources, including the nature, location and severity index. Find out the acousticemission source would be beneficial to identify the early damage location in thecomposite, then ensure the safety of aircraft.In this paper analysed the application of acoustic emission testing at home andabroad technology. According to the characteristics of sonic which were wave-typeconversion, reflection, refraction in composite, combined with acoustic emissionwave propagation velocity and attenuation characteristics in the composite, based ontime difference location technology, to put forward the location of acoustic emissionsource of the carbon fibre reinforced resin composite.The AEwin acoustic emission instrument of United States PAC company areused in this paper, Use break Pb analog AE source measurement of AE wavepropagation velocity and attenuation on AC313helicopter composite materialstructures, determine the AE sensors layout, through the real-time monitoring bycompression loading tests on composite material, analysis of material contained untilbreaks the various stages of AE signals, through analysis the relating chart ofamplitude,energy, duration with load time, to determine the fracture position,usingbreak Pb calibration of acoustic emission source positioning accuracy without orificepositioning accuracy of±20mm, perforated plate positioning accuracy of±50mm,the results of the actual compression test board measurement showed thatcompression injury site and acoustic emission source localization position basically todetermine the fracture position, and finite element analysis of material distributionconsistent set under stress distribution. Location errors caused mainly due to thecomposite plate structure differences, the acoustic characteristics of the compositematerial, velocity and attenuation measurement errors.Use the result of this paper and related research can determine the basicinformation on the AE source,include the location and nature of AEsource and thedegree of seriousness, so AE source location is an important indicator in AE testingand assessment, AE source location to AC313helicopter composite material structures, have important significance to protect the helicopter flight safety andimprove the social and economic benefits.
