With the increasing of the machining accuracy, the machine errors caused by the thermaldeformation is growing. So reducing the thermal deformation of machine tools becomes an importantway to improve the machining accuracy. Guide rail and ball screw are the main heat source of feedsystem, whose thermal deformation will reduce the machining accuracy. This paper aims to study thetemperature field and thermal deformation of guide rail and ball screw drive system at the Y directionfeed system on gantry machine center, provide a reference to reduce thermal deformation of feedsystem. The main work is as follows:1. Based on the theory of heat conduction, heat convection and analyze the heat source of thefeed system, the calculation method and the calculation process of the heat power and coefficient ofconvective heat transfer of the guide rail and ball screw drive system is given, and developed acalculation software of thermal load using MATLAB GUI, achieved the rapid calculation of heat loadin finite element thermal analysis.2. Set up the finite element model of the guide rail and ball screw drive system. Obtain the steadytemperature field in thermal equilibrium state and the transient temperature field of feed systembefore thermal equilibrium or the heat load changes through the application of heat load, then gain thethermal deformation of feed system through thermal-structure coupling analysis; Study the influenceof feed speed, preload, thermal convection on thermal deformation of ball screw drive system, thenput forward the effective measures to reduce the thermal deformation of guide rail and ball screwdrive system.3. Developed the multi-channel data acquisition system, do the temperature field and thermaldeformation experiment of the Y direction feed system on gantry machine, comparing the simulationresults with the experimental test verify the method for the temperature field and thermal deformationof ball screw drive system based on FEM is feasible.
