With the rapid development of electronic information technology, electroniccomponents become more integrated and high stabilization. LTCC (Low TemperatureCo-fired Ceramics) technology has become increasingly important because it is suitablefor high density integration and assembly of electronic components. As the keycomponent of the LTCC technology, the LTCC substrates are required to meet the lowdielectric constant, low dielectric loss and high flexural strength, for efficient signaltransmission and high wiring density. Calcium aluminum borosilicate/alumina glassceramics not only meet the above requirements, but also have a lead-freeenvironmentally friendly feature, so they become one of the research focus. There are two types of calcium aluminum borosilicate/alumina glass ceramics, respectively crystallized glass/alumina and amorphous glass/alumina. The preparation, microstructure, phase composition, dielectric properties and flexural strengthperformances of the glass ceramics were investigated. For crystallized glass/alumina, the effects of the glass components and glassparticle sizes on the performances of the glass ceramic were investigated. The resultsshow that when CaO/Al2O3in the glass component is1.67and the glass particle size is1.58μm, the performances of the glass ceramic are the best: the sintering temperature is875°C, the dielectric constant is7.88, the dielectric loss is0.0011, the flexural strength is161Mpa. To further optimize the performances of glass ceramic, the effects of thealumina particle sizes and alumina contents on microstructure and macroscopic electricaland mechanical properties of the material were investigated. The results show that whenthe alumina content is50wt%, the alumina particle size is2.6μm, the dielectricproperties of the glass ceramic are the best: the dielectric constant is7.88, the dielectricloss is0.0011; when the alumina content is50wt%, the alumina particle size is4.7μm,the flexural strength of the glass ceramic is the best:174MPa. For amorphous glass/alumina glass ceramic, the effects of alumina contents and thedifferent components of the glass on the performances of the glass ceramic wereinvestigated. The results show that when the alumina content is50wt%and SiO2/B2O3is3.34, the glass ceramic sintered at875℃is dense, and the dielectric constant is7.24, thedielectric loss is0.0032, the flexural strength is187Mpa. The experimental results arecompared with three practical products. It was found that the density of the homemadesample is low and the composition of the homemade sample is uneven. Further researchand improvements on the experimental formulations and processes are necessary.
