Activated carbon adsorption is a popular process in wastewater treatment, but itresults not only the resource waste, but also the secondary pollution that the saturationactivated carbon without any treatment are abandoned. Therefore, the regeneration ofthe saturation activated carbon is an inevitable tendency in activated carbon industry.because of the traditional techniques of regeneration activated carbon had someshortages, including infexible manipulation, lower regenation efficiency and highenergy cost, the development of new technology of regenerating activated carbon hasbecome urgent to solve in the field of environmental protection. Experimental study onthe regeneration of activated carbon adsorpting organic matters by Fenton reagent, which can provide not only the basic dates for further research of regenaration ofactivated carbon by Fenton reagent, but also a new method to regenaration of activatedcarbon. The regeneration of activated carbon which adsorbed diisopropyl benzene andother organic matters from organic wastewater using Fenton reagent was investigatedat various H2O2dosage, Fe2+/H2O2(mole ratio), pH, temperature and regenerationtime. After a large number of single factor experimmts and orthogonal experiment, obtained the optimal operating conditions for the regeneration of activated carbon were120mmol/L H2O2, n(Fe2+)/n(H2O2) of1:20, pH of3, temperature of25℃andregeneration time of70min. Under this condition, the regeneration rate achieved itspeak of85.6%and average regeneration rate could still achieve84.9%after six fullcycles. But after repeated regeneration processes of activated carbon, excessiveaccumulation of Fe on the activated carbon resulted in the consequent interferencewith phenol sorption capacity and regeneration rate of activated carbon. At the sametime, analyzed the several times of regeneration, the changes of the surface propertiesof activated carbon. The scanning electron microscope(SEM)and the BET surface areafor activated carbon had been analyzed and the results showed that Fenton reagent letthe surface of activated carbon rough and formed a clear crack, the average pore sizedecreased, the surface area and totle pore volume increased, the regeneration processhad a great impact on activated carbon surface, component, mainly in the content ofelement C decreased slightly while the element Fe decreased. The results showed that, Fenton reagent processed an economic and environmental way for the regeneration of activated carbon.
