Large oil storage tanks are very important equipment in petrol industry which undertake the storing task of thousands tons of oil. Oil storage tanks are most located in coastal and mountainous areas, which make them vulnerable to wind-induced disasters. Therefore, this article mainly intends to investigate the buckling state when the oil storage tanks are under the wind load as well as to calculate and measure its ability of resisting the wind. The results of the investigation have some reference values both for the process of the storage tank design and the evaluation of its wind-resisting ability.The article first gives a brief introduction about the significance, history and the present status of the analysis of wind-induced buckling and the corresponding investigation method. Then the article introduces the basic theories when doing simulations with the software.The article then makes a simplification about a model of the storage tank, which is10,000m3, and build the model in ABAQUS, the finite element software. Calculations and analysis are made with Riks method, the result of which shows the load of critical buckling and the location of critical buckling. After that this article makes a varying parameter analysis about it, and also calculates the effects of other factors such as gravity, volume and the wind-resistant structure. Then this article calculates the wind-induced buckling of a storage tank of100,000m3with the varying wall thickness. Finally it makes an analysis of the effect of foundation settlement.The article investigates then the wind-induced buckling of storage tanks with liquid inside. A storage tank full of liquid is calculated, with the critical load of buckling and buckling mode involved in its results. After that it investigates the wind-induced buckling of tanks with different liquid height, compares their critical wind pressure and critical wind speed, analyzes the change of buckling mode.Eventually the article investigates on the wind-induced buckling about the storage tanks with imperfections. After calculating the wind-induced buckling with imperfections, it makes a varying parameter analysis according to the imperfection value.
