Recently, high temperature incineration method become one of the main methods of medical waste disposal, got a rapid promotion and application in our country. With the use of incineration technology, the secondary pollution problem gradually aroused people’s concern. The research of the pollution state of surrounding soil and vegetation and the environmental risk quantitative due to the medical garbage incinerator, has important practical significance. In this paper, took a medical waste incineration plants in Guangdong province as the research object, through field trips as well as soil and plant sample collection, testing the content of heavy metals and organic pollutants in soil and plants, judging the distribution characteristics, sources, pollution levels, and selecting the appropriate methods for the environmental risk assessment. The mainconclusions are drawn as follows:(1) The content of heavy metals in the soil around medical waste incineration plants are mild exceed standard, accumulation of heavy metals in leaf capacity greater than plant stems, Lychee tree is not enriched in heavy metal. The main source is subsidence of heavy metals which is discharged to atmospheric environment From incinerator. In soil, heavy metal pollution was at moderate level or below, and in plant was at slightly level.(2) In soil, the total PAHs content ranged from11.83to788.24ng/g, in leaf ranged from256to1420ng/g, and in stems ranged from171to684ng/g. The content of PAHs at downwind side was significantly higher than upwind side, and gradually decreases with the distance increasing. The content of various PAHs in plant leaves are larger than stems. The main source of PAHs in soil around the medical waste incineration plants was Atmospheric deposition, which it may be associated with the waste incineration plants. The results showed that soil samples were No PAHs pollution or moderate pollution.(3) In soil, the total PCBs content ranged from38.5to71116pg/g, in leaf ranged from4654to16770pg/g, and in stems ranged from3192.31to13292.23pg/g. Soil and plants contained mainly low chlorinated of PCBs, The main source of PCBs was medical waste incineration produce PCB evaporation and diffusion to the atmosphere. The soil is not contamination by PCBs. (4) Hakanson potential ecological risk index method was used for the environmental risk assessment of heavy metals and PCBs in the soil, Cd and Hg were at the dominant, overall pollution is light. Risk quotient method was used for the environmental risk assessment of PAHs, monomer PAHs were risk-free to medium risk level, total PAHs were in low risk level.
