Producing sulfuric acid with smelter gas is one of the most important methods to produce sulfuric acid, and the gas purification is an important part of the process to produce sulfuric acid with smelter gas, whose effect has a direct impact on the quality of product acid. When the operating signal between the flash smelting furnace and the converter switches, the inlet pressure is often positive, which can cause environmental pollution, harm the health of operators and so on. With the sharp increase in metal demand, the quantity of smoke is increasing rapidly, and the task of the smoke disposing system is much heavier, the holistic structure is huger and more complicated, which leads to routine control system difficult to fit the control demand. So it is very important to study an effective control strategy.In this paper, firstly the domestic and international research background and destination of producing sulfuric acid with smelter gas are outlined, and then the research contents and the overall structure of this article are described briefly. Secondly all parts of the process and the basic working principle of gas purification in some Smelter are introduced, on the basis of which the mathematical models of all parts are introduced. Furthermore, the comprehensive model of inlet pressure of primary dynamic wave is established.Because of the complex model of the gas purification system, difficulties to obtain the accurate model and serious nonlinear of the model, using the conventional control methods can’t obtain nice control effect. The predictive control algorithm, which keeps on revising parameters of model, has some advantages in terms of better stability and robustness. Wiener model is a nonlinear block-oriented model, which is constructed by a linear model cascaded by a nonlinear model. The control algorithm based on wiener model can solve some kinds of processes control problem very well. On the basis of establishing mathematical model, considering the inherent characteristic of this model, GPC based on wiener model is applied to the inlet gas pressure of primary dynamic wave in the gas purification system. Then the scheme is verified by simulation, the results show that it is feasible to use GPC based on wiener model to control this kind of such complex industrial process.
