Warm extrusion features the improvement of production efficiency andreduction of manufacturing cost which has been widely used globally, especiallyin the automotive industry. As our country set out to the development of warmextrusion comparatively later than foreign countries, warm extrusion technologydropped behind so that process design was planned mostly relying on engineers’experience and verified by testing. With the rapid development of finite elementnumerical simulation, the numerical simulation method is one effective methodto the metal formation.This article discusses the warm extrusion process, delves into eachcontributing factors of warm extrusion, depicts the basic principle of rigid andplastic finite element approach by introducing finite element numericalsimulation software Deform3D. Take the extrusion of a bearing cover as theresearch object, the numerical simulation of forming process are studied in thispaper. The geometric model of die and rigid-plastic finite element model ofsimulation are built according to the demand of simulation analysis. Thedefinition of interface condition between die and workpiece, the mesh generation,forming velocity of machine and extrusion temperature, is also done. Theforming of the extrusion temperature, deformation rate and friction are discussedwhich impact extrusion force, damage factor, workpiece temperature andequivalent strain.The technology of warm extrusion and FEM simulation are integratedthrough this research. It helps to shorten developing period, improve life of die,and cut down the cost, etc. The progeny of the research can provide accordancefor other similar parts’ producing and be used to guide producing directly.Andalso provide important guiding significance for the technology scheme desigh and production process of other extrusion parts.
