Biological Aerated Filter (BAF) is a wastewater treatment technology via filtration, adsorption and biological metabolism, which combined the advantages of biological contactoxidation process for wastewater treatment and rapid filter for feedwater treatment, withfeatures of forced aeration, high filtration rate, collecting SS, etc. The operation practiceshows BAF excels in high organic load, less floor area, high treatment efficiency, goodeffluent quality, no need of secondary settlement tank, easy maintenance and management, strong resistance to sho load and so on.The performance test results indicate that the process of primary physicochemical treatment+secondary BAF+tertiary chemically enhanced treatment has good performance in domesticwastewater treatment, with quality of effluent up to First Grade A Standard of DischargeStandard of Pollutants for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant. For average wastewatertreatment capacity of39,469m~3/d, the remaining SS in effluent is about5mg/L with removalrate up to98%; COD about15mg/L with removal rate over94%; BOD about3mg/L withremoval rate over97%; NH3-N about2mg/L with removal rate around90%; TN about12mg/L with removal rate up to65%; TP about0.2mg/L with removal rate over95%.This project studies the development and application status of BAF; investigates the effect ofBAF simultaneous nitrification and denitrification process, as well as the post-denitrificationprocess in operated urban domestic wastewater treatment plant on the basis of denitrificationtheory; studies the factors influencing removal effency of SS, COD, NH3-N, TN, TP; andobtains optimal operating data of BAF simultaneous nitrification-denitrification process inorder to guide engineering design and factory operation.
