Ball-end milling cutter as high efficiency process tool of complex surfacespart is widely used in precision CNC machining. this paper based on processingaerospace titanium alloy parts, in the analysis of references about mathematicalmodel, grinding machining, cutting tests of the ball-end milling cutter, with UG3D software and related mathematical theory, research the overall modeling ofthe tool, to establish the Ball-end Milling Cutter Parametric Design Systemthrough the secondary development technology.After parameter optimizationmethod has been proved to be feasible, combinated those CAD model producedby software systems and the AdvantEdgeTMsimulation software analysis toolsmilling titanium alloy materials, implement TC4titanium alloy impellermachining process optimization. The main contents of this article:(1) In view of the ball-end milling cutter geometry, based on mathematicalmodel of the typical rotating tool’s blade curve, establish parametric equation oflead helix of peripheral blade, ball blade and the undercut scan line, analysistool’s truncate lines, relationate constraints through the mathematical descriptionof each line segment. Research situation of ball-end milling cutter cuttingtitanium alloy materials, relationship of each structure variable of the tool withfailure forms, and give a solution to improve the tool cutting performance.(2) With UG3D software to build a ball-end milling cutter CAD model, inits software platform, combined UG/Open Tools, COM components and databasetechnology to establish parametric design system, self-defined the system menu,the user interface, database structure of software modules, compile and link theprogram, to achieve rapid modeling of the cutter, lay the foundation for thesubsequent simulation analysis.(3) Take the titanium alloy impeller finish milling processing as an example,design and sharpen the monolithic carbide ball-end milling cutter, usingorthogonal test method to optimize the structural parameters of the cutter, analysis tool’s each parameter variables on the influence of the cutting process,validation ball-end milling cutter parameter optimization method is feasible.(4) Combine with finite element software to analysis titanium alloyprocessing, simulate milling force changes of ball-end milling cutter cuttingprocess, realize parts processing of different process, tool structure and cuttingdosage reasonable matching, so as to realize the impeller machining processoptimization.
