In the Tang Dynasty, Chinese history is a peak in the economic and cultural development. Auspicious patterns as China traditional patterns, widely used in the Tang Dynasty, are very representative. The auspicious pattern is one of Chinese traditional patterns. Themes of the auspicious patterns could be animals, plants, flowers as well as natural scenery These patterns with the development of historical time, and continuous precipitation, extension, formed uniquely and traditionally Chinese art system. These traditionally auspicious patterns not only reflect the essence of Chinese wisdom in the past thousands of years, but they also reveal specific characteristics of artistic spirits in Chinese nation. We could explore different techniques in different periods and learn culture of Chinese tradition from those traditional patterns. The use of those traditional patterns in modern design reflects their attraction and charm. Approaches to innovate and inherit those auspicious patterns and ways to make them fit present people’s life are very important in application of traditional patterns in modern design. Innovation of auspicious patterns requires inheritance of traditional culture, as well as abandon of outdated concepts. Refining the traditional patterns with new design concepts and functions could meet currently aesthetical and practical requirements. Therefore, inheritance and innovation of auspicious patterns in contemporary interior textile design is a necessary and challenging task.The auspicious pattern is the most representative one of traditional patterns, and it is an important part in Chinese style design. Auspicious patterns are often used on peoples’ daily wear and interior decoration, because those auspicious patterns are symbols of Chinese traditional culture, representing happiness and luck. This paper will explore the application and innovation of the traditionally auspicious patterns in interior textiles. This paper also investigated origin and development of auspicious patterns, and factors that influence the use of auspicious patterns in textile design. Purposes of the paper are to develop innovative textile design with Chinese characteristics using traditional auspicious patterns, and to promote those traditional and innovative designs in the fashion world. Additionally, cases and conclusions obtained in this paper could provide some references for innovative interior textile design.
