With the process of modernization accelerating, the demand for energy is constantlygrowing, especially in the demand for oil and gas and other energy resources. Pipelinetransport as the main transport modes of oil and gas, which has its unique advantages,has been widely used around the world. With the growth in the number of pipelines,the service life of pipeline is becoming longer and longer. In addition, corrosion,abrasion and other unavoidable reasons lead to frequent pipeline accidents. Theaccidents follow the curve of the accident rate, named the "bathtub curve’’. Gaspipeline, due to its particularity of transferred media, once the accident occurs, willhave a huge impact on the lives and property of the people. Therefore, to conduct acomprehensive inspection of gas pipelines and to ensure the safety of its operation, isan important work in the safety inspection. Based on the fire hazards investigationproject of the Xidan Cultural Plaza, defect detection and safety assessment of gaspipelines in Xidan Cultural Square are studied.This paper mainly analyzes some common defects in the pipes, introduces thereasons and the harms of the defects, and the defects are divided into weld defects,corrosion and pipeline interface defects, which lays the foundation for the follow-upof the special inspection. By analyzing and comparing the advantages anddisadvantages of several commonly used detection method, this study uses TM360digital ultrasonic flaw detector for NTD, gas leakage detector for the leak of pipelineinterface and the leak of the space, and the ultrasonic thickness testing instrument forthe pipe wall thickness loss, and introduces the work principle and calibration methodof the instruments. According to the actual situation, the Xidan Cultural Square gasCardinal direction and detection scheme have been made. which include measurementmethod and location, The detection integrates the advantages of several instruments.Finally, recording the related test data, which can provide the basis for evaluating thesafety of the pipeline. Defect assessment is the very important part of pipeline defect detection.According to the related inspection standards and leak detection standards, pipelineweld NDT results, the gas leakage test results and the pipe wall thickness lossdetection are divided into different danger levels. Based on the maximum riskprinciple, the most serious consequences of the risk levels of the shops determine thefinal risk level.9shops and2gas meters are inspected, and the results are: dangerlevel Ⅳ is3shops, level Ⅲ3,levelⅡ1, and the remaining is levelⅠ.According tothe test results, the shops in levelⅠabove should be taken corresponding measures.
