Reactive dyestuff plays an important role in the dyeing process of cellulose fabric. In its developing process, reactive dyes replace vat dyes, direct dyes, due to its distinctive advantages in synthesis, cost and color. As three primary colors, the red, yellow and blue reactive dyes are widely used in the textile industry. However, some properties of reactive dyes, such as low dyeing exhaustion and fixation, bad dyeing fatness and large salt consumption, can lead to serious environmental problems. Thus, in order to solve these problems and to meet the actual demand of internship factory, the reactive dyes containing double chromophoric systems were designed to get high dyeing exhaustion and fixation, color fastness. Four reactive dyes (B-1,R-1,Y-1,KY-1) containing double chromophoric systems were designed and based on its relationship among the molecular structure, chromophore parent, bridge group, active group and dyeing properties performance. The blue reactive dye B-1and red reactive dye R-1had four reactive groups connected by a bridge group. The orange reactive dye KY-1and yellow reactive dye Y-1had two reactive groups connected by a bridge group. According to the difference in reactant, the reacting conditions of condensation and diazo coupling were adjusted. These dyes and raw materials were characterized by UV-Vis, FT-IR. The maximum absorption wavelength of these dyes was determined and the molar extinction coefficient was calculated. The dyeing and printing performances of these four dyes for cotton fabric were investigated. In order to discuss the actual application of reactive dyes containing double chromophoric systems, their application properties were also compared with the commercial dyes having similar color. The results show that reactive dyes containing double chromophoric systems had high molar extinction coefficient. Reactive dyes B-1and R-1had high fixation rate, good building up property and excellent fastness during dyeing and printing for cotton fabric because of their double chromophoric systems and four reactive groups. Reactive dye Y-1and KY-1could be applied to dyeing and printing, respectively.
