Now the problem of environmental pollution and energy shortages is going worse. Cold start fuel consumption and emission has become one of the main research contents of the engine. The temperature of engine is low and poor overall working condition when it cold start. These all can lead to an increase in fuel consumption and emissions. In this paper, starting from the engine coolant temperature, researching the influence of coolant temperature on fuel consumption and emission by computer simulation.Splitting the actual engine and engine cooling system into respective facilitate handling subsystem based the date from company. Establishing corresponding physical model by the component in GT-SUIT. Quantitating the physical model by mathematical description based the knowledge of thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer and fluid mechanics. Then putting the date into the component and modeling. Establishing an in-line four-cylinder engine based on the parameters of engine by GT-POWER. Validating the model accuracy by the test date of engine external characteristic. Calculating the date of fuel consumption rate and HC emission rate by this model. And this date will be used in the cooling system model established by GT-COOL. Using the first two cycle of ECE to simulate the working condition of cold start. Simulation result shows that the temperature of coolant has a direct impact on the engin fuel consumption and HC emission when it cold start.Adding a heater into the cooling system to reduce the cold start fuel consumption and HC emission in order to ment do not reduce the engine performance. Preheating the coolant before cold start. Calculating the heater power and validating the model.According to the simulation results, the method in the390s cold start phase can effectively reduce the engine fuel consumption and the emission amount of HC. Providing some reference to improve the emissions and fuel consumption of vehicle cold start.
