This work originates from the National High-tech R&D Program of China (863Program), the theme project is "ship’s integrated monitoring and control system development", and the sub-topic is "automation integrated system and digital platform equipment of ship engine-room", in the area of modern transport technology.With the development of computer, network communication, embedded technology, the automation of ships is higher than before, which makes the supporting platform of the ship monitoring and controlling system develop towards highly automated and intelligent. China is still in its infancy in the areas of ship equipments, especially the independent innovation of software platforms, many technologies must be introduced. In this background, some researches and exploration about the design of the supporting platform of the ship monitoring and controlling system are done in this paper, and a supporting platform with a certain function is created based on Windows system.In process of researching and exploring, efforts are made in the following aspects:(1) It summed up the functional requirements of the supporting platform, based on the analysis of the structure and functions of the monitoring and controlling system of the ship, and the structure of the supporting platform was designed with the method of object-oriented.(2) Key technologies mainly involved in the design of the supporting platform were analyzed.(3) It introduced functions of graphical interface of configuration of the supporting platform, from the development of the components graphics module library to the edit component graphic module management in the resource editor. Components graphics module’s development is carried on the aspects of graphical object model and animation object model. With setting of one or more animation links for the graphical object under different conditions, it completed the encapsulation of the components graphic module.(4) Data storage strategy and the structure of the databases were determined, based on the analysis of the data flow of the supporting platform. There are four databases of the supporting platform. Variable management database, alarm history database and user management database are backstage database, while the core database of the supporting platform is real-time database.(5) Real-time database is established to meet the real-time demand of the supporting platform.(6) It introduced the overall implementation of software function of the supporting platform, from the aspects of the monitoring interface creating and the visualize data management, based on the example of main engine system, generator system, auxiliary boiler system and alarm system. The supporting platform not only has the functions of variable information online to view and modify, but also has the function of alarm prompt, which help the monitoring interface response real device or system objectively and intelligently.(7) Some related open system interfaces are designed in the platform, such as fault diagnosis expert system, data communication interface and video monitoring system interface, which are for the system development and future upgrades.
