Objective: To investigate the prevalence of dermatophyte on the hair coat of thefamily pets (cats and dogs) without and with skin lesions in Fuzhou area. Toilluminate the relationship between the family pets and the close contacting childrenwith dermatophytosis. To explore the law of the epidemiology, to provide the data forthe prevention and treatment of dermatophytosis. Methods: During June2011and September2012,200cases the family pets attendingthe pet hospitals from Fuzhou area were randomly selected. The samples werecollected from all the squirrels studied using sterile toothbrush from the entire body.Skin lesions were scraped by sterile scalpel as well. The mycological analyses wereperformed by direct microscopy and culture media. According to differentcircumstances respectively into several colonies in culture medium:(1) SDA (2)DTM (3) urea agar (4) RGM (5) were applied to small training. Subsequently, thecolonies were examined under a light microscope to determine the morphologicalstructures of the fungi on slide mounted in lactophenol-cotton blue. By means ofquestionnaire survey and directly based training mode, investigation of pets in closecontacting children carrying dermatophytes. Using statistical methods were comparedand analyzed the conclusion.Results:1. We investigated200cases of the family pets, including148cases pet dogsand52cases pet cats. Dermatophytes were found in27cases, and the total fungalculture positive rate was13.5%(27/200).The results of fungal culture showed that petcats cultivate were infected with Microsporum canis12strains (23.0%). Pet dogs were infected with Microsporum gypseum in11strains (7.43%),Trichophytonmentagrophytes in4strains(2.7%).2. We investigated57children in close contactwith the family pets for nearly a year.25children dermatophytes cases include13cases of tinea (52%),9cases of the tinea capitis (36%),3cases of tinea pedis (12%).25cases of fungal culture positive children dermatophytes patients, onset age from2years and5months to13years, with an average age of6.9years, of which4wereMicrosporum canis (40%), Trichophyton mentagrophytes in3strains (30%),Microsporum gypseum in3strains (30%).Conclusion:1. In Fuzhou area, the rate of pet cats with dermatophytes carried ishigher than pet dogs. M.canis is the most common pathogenie fungi on hair coat ofpet cats, and M.gypseum is the most common pathogenie fungi on hair coat of petdogs.2. The children infected with dermatophytes occurs in6to8years of age forchildren, explaining this age children in the key control object. Tinea corporis is closecontact with the highest incidence of children.3. Dermatophytes are carried by someartificial breeding healthy family pet in their clothing hair in Fuzhou area, which canbe transmitted to close contacting children and result in dermatophytosis. So wesugguest that the prevention for children tinea capitis touches the family pet as less aspossible.
