Background and Objective:Literature metrology(Bibliometrics, BM) includes two important issues, one is to studythe growth regularity of the science literatures, and the other is to promote and apply thegrowth regularity. To research on the development of a subject and forecast its futuredevelopment regularity, it’s important to conduct a comprehensive observation of thesubject literatures first, then to draw the growth curve according to the literature amountof the subject and analyze the historical document review and the development trend. Atpresent, there are many factors influence the domestic and foreign medical literaturegrowth regularity, which relates to not only its own development discipline, but also theacademic environment. Study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease(IBD) this Disease, itshould be as the above said, analyze the IBD growth regularity of historical literature, and on this basis to predict the development direction of these diseases, the IBDresearchers and clinical workers has very important significance. Methods:It respectively searched the literature quantity year by year in PubMed from1945to 2012and CNKI from1979to2012, through the keywords: IBD and its hyponymsUlcerative Colitis(UC) and Crohn’s Disease(CD). Then it carried out linear regressionanalysis with the searching results in PubMed and CNKI respectively to determineliterature growth regularity and main factors that affect future development of IBD.Meanwhile, it analyzes published IBD papers in domestic and foreign journals. Results:In PubMed database: it contains65,637IBD literatures, UC(n=32557), CD(n=36575)between1945and2012. In CNKI Chinese literature sources database, it includes32,122IBD literatures UC(n=12319), CD(n=17185) from1979to2012. According to the IBDliterature types in PubMed database, it is divided into the Review(n=11313), RandomizedControlled Trial(n=1353), Practice Guideline(n=122), Meta-Analysis(n=366), Letter(n=3925),Editorial Material(n=1067), Clinical Trial(n=3042); MEDLINE(n=63335); Nursingjournals(n=587), Core clinical journals(n=11524), Others(n=191). Man(n=29096),Woman(n=28601); Humans(n=56390), Other Animals (n=6191); Free full textavailable(n=11745), Full text available(n=11841), Abstracts(n=43229). In1979-2012CNKI database, the type of IBD literature can be divided into Research Paper24, Research Method302, Research Report182, Review390and others218. It showsrising trend of the literature accumulation amount of IBD, UC and CD in PubMed andCNKI. The scattered point diagram of UC and CD shows exponential growingtrend(Y=aex), which is growing slowly in the early time but rapidly in recent years. Thereare16,123,009(72.63%) IBD literatures published in English which stands1stplace, andthe amount of IBD literatures published in Chinese goes the6thplace(221,1.7%). In the65,637foreign IBD literatures, there are10,140literatures with the IBD keywords in thetop10of the most recording literatures in gastrointestinal Hepatology. In32,122domestic related literatures (1979-2012), there are11,101IBD literatures published in thecore journals, accounting for34.56%.Conclusion:The results show that the growth of domestic and foreign IBD research literatures isapproximately linear, which indicates that IBD is a hotspot. The factor affecting foreign IBD literature growth is its own inherent rules, while the factor in domestic is theenvironment of the subject. The results show that these studies have roles for the IBDresearchers and clinicians to provide reference and research focus or direction.
