Objeetive: To study the risk factors for surgical site infections(SSI) in patients withopen operation for cholelithiasis, and provide the basis for preventing SSI.Methods:227patients who underwent open operation for cholelithiasis from Jan1,2011to Dec31,2012were enrolled from the First Affiliated Hospital of FuJian MedicalUniversity. SSI was diagnosed according to the standard guideline and the SSI patientswere selected by case files. The following predictor factors were analyzed: gender, age,body mass index(BMI), smoking history, diabetes, white blood cell count, hemoglobinlevel, level of total bilirubin, albumin, alanine aminotransferase level, preoperativehospitalization day, biliary tract infections, operation time, different sugical treatment,surgical blood loss, postoperative complications. Statistical significance was established byunivariate and multivariate Logistic regression analysis model.Results: Among227patients,33(14.54%) were diagnosed with SSI.26patients hadsuperficial and4had deep tissue infection in incision site and3had organic infection. Dataanalysis was condueted using univariate and multivariate Logistic regression methods:BMI (OR=3.763, P=0.011,95%CI=1.362-10.398), diabetes mellitus(OR=2.978, P=0.035,95%CI=1.081-8.203), hemoglobin level(OR=3.437, P=0.042,95%CI=1.044-11.313),biliary tract infections(OR=2.658, P=0.019,95%CI=1.177-6.005), operationtime(OR=5.149, P=0.01,95%CI=1.482-17.883).Conclusions:BMI, diabetes mellitus, hemoglobin level, merger of biliary infection,and operation time are potentially risk factors for predicting SSI in open operation forcholelithiasis.
