Background:Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) is an important chronic respiratory disease. Many studies show that respiratory function exercise is beneficial for chronic respiratory disease. In China, there is scarce research on respiratory function exercise in patients with ILD, and its effects of respiratory function exercise in patients with ILD have not been very clarified. Objective:To evaluate the effects of respiratory function exercise in ILD patients’ dyspnea.quality of life, pulmonary function, movement functional ability.anxiety and depression. Methods:Convenience sampling of70ILD outpatients from hospital of PUMC were recruited from April2012to January2013. The sample was randomly divided into two subgroups. Routine treatment was given to the control group(n=35),while the intervention group (n=35) performed respiratory function exercise, including abdominal lip-shrinking breathing and systemic breathing exercises. The St.George’s Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) was used to evaluate the quality-of-life of ILD patients, and dyspnea was assessed using the Visual Analog Scale(VAS).Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAD) was used to evaluate anxiety and depression of ILD patients. Pulmonary function test and6-Min Walking Test (6MWT) were used to evaluate pulmonary function and functional ability of ILD patients. All patients were followed up and monitored quality of life, dyspnea, pulmonary function,6-Min Walking Test, anxiety and depression at2months and4months respectively.Results:The70patients were observed over2months.(1) No significant difference in pulmonary function was found between the two groups (t=-0.567-0.414, P>0.05);(2) The total scores of SGRQ showed difference between groups (Z=-2.158, P<0.05), with no differences in the three domain scores between groups(Z=-0.599~-1.330, P>0.05);(3) No significant difference in VAS score was found between the two groups (Z=-0.711, P>0.05);(4) No significant difference in6MWD was found between the two groups (Z=-1.541, P>0.05);(5) The anxiety score showed significant difference between groups(Z=-2.203, P<0.05), but there was no difference in the depression score between the two groups(Z=-0.362, P>0.05). The70patients were observed over4months.(1) No difference in pulmonary function was found between the two groups(t=-0.771~1.032, P>0.05);(2) The symptom, impact domain and total score of SGRQ showed difference between groups (Z=-2.580~-2.744, P<0.05);(3) There was significant difference in VAS score between groups (Z=-2.575, P<0.05);(4) There was significant difference in6MWD between groups (Z=-2.284, P<0.05);(5) The anxiety scores showed significant difference between groups(Z=-2.278, P<0.05), but no difference was found in the depression score between the two groups was found(Z=-1.005, P>0.05).Conclusion:This study found positive effects of respiratory function exercise in patients with ILD on quality of life, dyspnea, anxiety and functional ability. It is worth to be popularized.
