Their cystatin C and somerelated biochemical indicators were detected. Carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) wasmeasured by Doppler ultrasonography. All selected subjects were divided into two groupssuch as normal control group and hypertensive group according to the diagnostic criteriaof hypertension. The serum Cys C, age and IMT of these two groups were compared. After that, hypertensive patients and the healthy subjects were divided into three groupsaccording to weather or not having carotid plaque; they are the healthy control groupwithout carotid plaque, the hypertensive group without carotid plaque and thehypertensive group with carotid plaque. Then the serum Cys C,age and some relatedbiochemical indicators between above three groups were compared. Finally, analysis ofthe relationship between these indicators of all selected subjects with carotid IMT wasmade. Results:Serum cystatin C levels and carotid IMT in hypertensive group were higherthan that of normal control group(P<0.05). Pairwise comparisons between the healthycontrol group without carotid plaque, the hypertensive group without carotid plaque andthe hypertensive group with carotid plaque were made. The results showed that serumcystatin C level in the hypertensive group with carotid plaque was higher than that of theother two groups(P<0.05). The spearman correlation analysis showed that carotid IMTwas positively related to serum cystatin C and age(r=0.258,P<0.01; r=0.323,P<0.01). The multiple linear regression analysis showed that cystatin C was one of theindependent risk factors of carotid IMT. Partial correlation analysis after the adjustment ofage showed that there was a significant association between serum cystatin C level andcarotid IMT(r=0.198,P<0.01). Conclusion There is a close correlation between serum cystatin C and carotid IMT in patients with essential hypertension; serum cystatin C canserve as one of the predicators of carotid IMT.... | Keywords/Search Tags: | Cystatin C, Hypertension, Carotid intima-media thickness | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
