Objective:To explore the relevance between vitamin D level and arterial stiffness inpatients with essential hypertension. Methods:195cases of patients with essentialhypertension selected from hypertension patients diagnosed by department ofhypertension in First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from December2010to October2012as the research object. According to the25-hydroxyvitamin Dlevels, we divide the research object into the lack of vitamin D group (n=124) and the nolack of vitamin D group (n=71), carry on the clinical data collection, analys thecorrelation of vitamin D and arterial stiffness. Results:Compared the lack of vitamin Dgroup with the no lack of vitamin D group, difference between theage, gender, course ofhypertension, body mass index (BMI),fasting plasma glucose(FPG),glycosylatedhemoglobin(HbAlc),triglycerides(TG),total cholesterol(TC), low-density lipoproteincholesterol (LDL-C), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), blood calcium, bloodphosphorus, average blood pressure of24hours has no statistical significance(P>0.05),while25(OH) D levels between the two groups have a significant statisticaldifference (P<0.001), so the two groups can be comparaed. ABI, baPWV and carotidartery IMT have statistically significance (P<0.05).25(OH)D is negatively correlated withABI and carotid artery IMT. Multiple regression analysis shows that ABI and25(OH)Dassociated independently (β=-0.227,P<0.05), carotid artery IMT and25(OH)D associatedindependently (β=-0.175, P<0.05). Conclusion:Vitamin D deficiency in patients withessential hypertension can increase arterial stiffness. Serum25(OH) D concentration wasan independent risk factor of ABI and carotid IMT increased.25-hydroxyvitamin D mayhave a negative relationship with arterial stiffness.
