Objective: To explore the prevalence and risk factors of the subtypes of delirium inICU mechanically ventilated patients.Methods:235cases which were applied mechanically ventilation in Emergency ICUof our hospital were selected during the period from September2011to March2013,according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and the baseline data were gathered. The simplified Chinese version of the confusion assessment method (CAM-ICU) was administeredto assess the patient daily. Logistic regression were applied to analyze the relationshipbetween gender, age, the severity of disease in ICU, main diagnosis (trauma, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, and digestive diseases), arterial blood gasand incidence in different subtypes of ICU delirium.Results:(1)151(64.26%) of235cases were with delirium.78male cases of patients(51.66%) were with delirium in the delirium group, while39male cases of patients(46.43%) in non-delirium group were with delirium;(2) in the151cases of patientswith delirium,33(21.85%) cases were with the subtype of hyperactive delirium,84(55.63%) cases were with the subtype of hypoactive delirium which had the highestincidence and34cases (22.52%) were with the subtype of mixed delirium;(3) thesubtype of hyperactive delirium: one factor analysis of variance indicated that APACHE â…¡scores (P <0.001) and hypoxemia (P=0.064) had relation with the subtype ofhyperactive delirium, however, multivariate analysis showed that both are notindependent risk factors for its occurrence;(4) the subypes of hypoactive delirium: onefactor analysis of variance indicated that age (P=0.051), gender (P=0.082), APACHE â…¡score (P <0.001), and respiratory diseases had relation with the occurrence of the subypes of hypoactive delirium (P=0.005) while multi-factor analysis indicated thatage (P=0.041) and respiratory diseases (P=0.028) were independent risk factors for itsoccurrence;(5) mixed delirium:one factor analysis of variance indicated that age (P=0.027)and respiratory diseases (P=0.044) had relation with mixed delirium, and multi-factoranalysis indicated that age (P=0.034) and respiratory diseases (P=0.041) were itsindependent risk factors. Conclusions: ICU mechanical ventilated patients had a higher incidence of delirium, while the subtype of hypoactive delirium was the most common subtype in ICU,followed by the subtype of mixed and hyperactive delirium. Age and respiratorydiseases were common independent risk factors of the subtype of hypoactive and mixeddelirium.
