Objective: To investigate the effect of preoperative drainage on the morbidity andmortality of pancreaticoduodenectomy in patient of malignant obstructivejaundice.Methods: Clinical data of82cases undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomv formJan2001to Dec2012whose preoperative total bilirubin level was over170μmol/L werecollected and analyzed.Results: Twenty-one cases received preoperative PBD procedureand the mean drainage duration was10days.The total bilirubin level significantlydecreased0f from322±212μmol/L to184±115μmol/L.The morbidity was38%(7/21)inPBD group and44%(25/61) in non-PBD group.There was no significant differencebetween the two groups.Conclusions: There was no significant difference between thetwo groups.
