Comparative Study Of Oral Temperature And Auricular Temperature

Objective:By comparing the relation between oral temperature and auricular temperature, the difference of infra-red quick ear thermometer and mercury thermometer to measure results, Then we can provide a reliable basis for clinical treatment and nursing work.Methods:By selecting the616patients and self-control study was used by checking both oral and auricular temperature to study the difference between them in these conditions, including different age, different room temperature, different body temperature. SPSS17.0statistical software was used.In our study, each variables had Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test. Mean value and standard deviation were used to describe temperature distribution while wilcoxon-test or spearman rank correlation was used to analysis the difference between oral temperature and auricular temperature in different age, different room temperature and different body temperature Results:The results of this study show that oral temperature and auricular temperature has no statistical differences in different age, different room temperature and different body temperature. When oral temperature taken by mercurial thermometer was used as a gold standard, infra-red quick ear thermometer measurements has a100%sensitivity and91.8%specificity.The coincidence rate is95.7%while the youden index is0.918.The results have high reliability and authenticity.Conclusion:The results of this study show high consistency between auricular temperature taken by ear thermometer and oral temperature taken by mercurial thermometer. Auricular temperature can reveal the actual body temperature information. It can provide a reliable basis for clinical treatment and nursing work.
