Objective: To analyse the morphological characteristics of the vessels associated to theinternal carotid artery-posterior communicating artery (ICA-PcomA) aneurysms, andexplore the relationship between the morphological characteristics and these aneurysms. Methods: Twenty-three patients (five male and eighteen female) with unilateral ICA-PcomA aneurysms which with no serious vasospasm were studied. The imaging data ofbilateral (the aneurysm side and the non-aneurysm side) internal carotid artery system ofthree-dimensional digital subtraction angiography (3D-DSA) reconstructed from Philips’3D workstation, and the morphological parameters obtained from3D-DSA were measuredby Philips3D-software, including the diameter of internal carotid artery of C1(DicaC1),the diameter of internal carotid artery of C2(DicaC2), the diameter of the origin of theposterior communicating artery (Dcomp), the angle between internal carotid artery of C1and the origin of the posterior communicating artery (Apcom1), the angle between internalcarotid artery of C2and the origin of the posterior communicating artery (Apcom2), and theangle between internal carotid artery of C1and internal carotid artery of C2(Aica).Parameters were analyzed with two-tailed matched-samples t test. Results: Statistically significant difference was not found in the value of DicaC1, DicaC2,Dcomp, Dpcom/DicaC1, Dpcom/DicaC2, Apcom2and Aica between the aneurysm sideand the non-aneurysm side (P>0.05), while statistically significant difference was found inthe value of Apcom1between the aneurysm side and the non-aneurysm side (P<0.05).Conclusion: The ICA-PcomA aneurysms are associated with the Apcom1. TheICA-PcomA aneurysms are not associated with the DicaC1, DicaC2, Dcomp, Dpcom/DicaC1,Dpcom/DicaC2, Apcom2and Aica.
