| Objective To enhance the recognition about malignant peritoneal mesothe-liom(aMPM)by studying the clinical characteristics and the methods of diagnosis andtreatment of the disease. Methods Clinical data of20patients with malignantperitoneal mesothelioma were analyzed retrospectively. Results The mainsymptoms of malignant peritoneal mesothelioma were abdominal painã€abdominaldistension〠ascites and intraabdominal mass.8of the20patients weremisdiagnosed.Though all patients had undergone laparotomy and/or laparoscopy,6ofthem did not manage to receive resection and14of them only received partialresection. The tumor recurred postoperatively in5patients.4of20patients had died.,and1patient of20patient had survived5fives after the tumor was clearly diagnosed.Conclusion malignant peritoneal mesothelioma does not present typical symptomsand it is very difficult to diagnose the disease,which is easily misdiagnosed.Theprognosis of the disease is always unfavorable. Comprehensive therapies that mainlydepend on surgical resection should be applied to achieve better therapeutical efficacy. |
