| Objective:Washing conjunctival sac before cataract surgery is a primary prevention of endophthalmitis. How to properly evaluate and select the appropriate solution is a question worth exploring. The purpose of this study is to compare the ocular rinse efficiency of povidone-iodine solution with sodium choride solution and antibiotics solution for cataract surgery by a meta-analysis..Methods:Both a computer-aided search of Pubmed and Ovid and the Cochrane Library and EMBASE, an intensive search by hand was conducted to identify all control studies so as to assess the effects of both therapeutic methods on the ocular rinse effect of povidone-iodine solution with other solutions for cataract surgery. Results:Four studies were finally included, one clinical index were analyzed and the povidone-iodine solution was found to be significantly more effective than sodium choride solution and antibiotics solutions. The pooled RR and pooled mean difference were0.15[0.05,0.45],0.38[0.17,0.83]Conclusion:Preoperative povidone-iodine solution is effective in the reduction of the postoperative infection for cataract surgery. |
