Objective:To explore the clinical therapeutic effect of cerebellopontine angel meningiomas (CPAM), and microsurgical skills of CPAM through suboccipital retrosigmoid approach. Methods:A retrospective analysis on the31patients undergoing surgical removal of historically confirmed CPAM between January2008and December2010was performed with regard to extent of resection, changes of nerves function postoperatively, and so on.Result:Simpson â…  resection was done in8(26.7%), â…¡in17(56.7%), â…¢ in4(13.3%), and â…£ in1(3.3%). Patients of subtotal and part resection received r-knife therapy after operation. Postoperative status was improved in21cases, received unchanged in7, and aggravated in9. Preservation of facial nerves was in23(74.2%)and audition in21(67.7%)Conclusion:Microsurgical treatment of CPAM through suboccipital retrosigmoid approach is safe and efficient. Microsurgical skills, intraoperative monitoring of facial and acoustic nerves, application of neuroendoscopes, protection of vessels, nerves and brain stem, and right prevention of complications are all the keys to improve the therapeutical outcomes and the postoperative quality of life.
